BEFORE YOU BOOK
TRAINING WITH RIVERLILY
What you can expect from us, and what we ask of you.
Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 17 September 2026
1. About us and these terms
1.1 Riverlily Working Dogs is run by Abbie Reid, trading as Riverlily Working Dogs ("we", "us", "our"), Lower Luton Road, Wheathampstead, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL4 8HW. You can contact us at info@riverlilyworkingdogs.co.uk.
1.2 These terms apply to every booking with us: courses, 1-2-1 sessions, workshops, general training sessions, training days and online training. By booking, you confirm you have read and accept them.
1.3 "You" means the person making the booking and handling the dog at training. If someone else will handle your dog, please make sure they have read these terms too.
2. Who can train with us
2.1 We train gundog breeds and gundog crosses. We specialise in Retrievers and Spaniels, and we also welcome HPRs and other gundog breeds. We do not have the ground or facilities to train every breed for every job it was bred to do, such as pointing and hunting at distance, and we are happy to recommend specialist trainers.
2.2 Puppies aged 7 months and under can book straight onto a puppy course once fully vaccinated.
2.3 Dogs aged 8 months and over that are new to us must have a 1-2-1 session with a Riverlily trainer before joining a group, so we can place you and your dog at the right level.
2.4 We place dogs in groups at our discretion and may move a dog to a different group if that will suit it better.
3. Booking and payment
3.1 A booking is confirmed when you receive a confirmation from us.
3.2 Payment is by bank transfer or cash, or by card online where that option is offered at booking.
3.3 Courses: the full course fee is due before or on the first session.
3.4 1-2-1 sessions: the full fee is due on or before the day of the session.
3.5 Workshops, general training sessions and training days: the full fee is due on or before the day.
3.6 Online training: the full fee is due before the session or course begins.
3.7 Our prices are shown on our website and may change from time to time. A change will not affect a booking we have already confirmed.
4. If you need to cancel
4.1 Please tell us as early as you can by emailing info@riverlilyworkingdogs.co.uk.
4.2 Courses: you can cancel up to 7 days before the course starts. After that, the full course fee is payable. Missed sessions are not refunded or carried forward, except in the circumstances in 4.5.
4.3 1-2-1 sessions: a £10 cancellation fee applies once a session is confirmed, to cover the time we have set aside for you.
4.4 Workshops, general training sessions and training days: places are limited, so the full fee is payable if you cannot attend, unless we are able to fill your place from our waiting list.
4.5 We will always consider genuine circumstances, such as a bitch coming into season or a dog needing veterinary treatment. We may ask for a vet's letter. Any refund, credit or transfer is at our discretion.
4.6 If you booked online, you may have a legal right to cancel within 14 days. Where that right applies and you ask us to start training within that period, you may need to pay for any sessions already provided. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
5. If we need to cancel or change a session
5.1 We train outdoors and occasionally need to cancel, move or rearrange a session, for example because of severe weather, ground conditions, loss of access to a venue, or trainer illness.
5.2 We will let you know as soon as we can and offer an alternative date or venue. If we cannot offer a suitable alternative, we will refund what you have paid for the session affected.
5.3 We may change the trainer or the venue for a session, and we will tell you in advance where we can.
6. Joining a course late
6.1 Puppy courses can be joined after they have started, subject to space. The full course fee applies.
6.2 Other courses cannot be joined once they have started, unless we invite you to.
7. Your dog's health
7.1 Your dog must be fully vaccinated and in good health. We recommend vaccination against kennel cough.
7.2 Bitches in season must not attend any training ground.
7.3 A dog that has been in contact with an infectious illness must have a vet's confirmation that it is clear before returning to training.
7.4 Please tell us about any health condition, injury or behaviour that could affect your dog's training or the safety of others.
8. Behaviour and training methods
8.1 We use positive, reward based training only. Harsh handling is not permitted, and electric collars are not allowed.
8.2 Aggressive dogs cannot train with us. If we have concerns about a dog's behaviour, we may ask you to leave the session, and we can recommend specialist help. No refund is due in that case.
8.3 Our trainers may stop or pause an exercise at any time for the welfare or safety of any dog or person.
9. At the training ground
9.1 Keep your dog on a lead at all times unless a trainer tells you otherwise.
9.2 Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your session.
9.3 Keep to a strict 10mph speed limit when entering any training ground, and park where directed.
9.4 Never leave a dog unattended in a vehicle. Please lock your vehicle and keep valuables out of sight.
9.5 Bring your own water and bowl to reduce the risk of infection. Pick up after your dog and take the bag home.
9.6 Please bring a collar, a lead, treats, toys, a game bag and a whistle if you use one. Equipment can be bought from our trainers.
9.7 Children and anyone accompanying you are your responsibility and must stay under your supervision.
9.8 Please respect our landowners' property, gates, livestock and wildlife.
10. Safety and responsibility
10.1 Training takes place in the countryside on uneven ground, near water, trees, low branches, ditches, livestock and wildlife. Starting pistols, dummy launchers and other training equipment may be used. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing and take reasonable care of yourself, your dog and others.
10.2 You are responsible for your dog's behaviour, and for any injury or damage your dog causes. We strongly recommend pet insurance that includes third party liability.
10.3 We hold public liability insurance.
10.4 We are not responsible for loss or damage that we could not reasonably have foreseen or prevented, including loss of or damage to vehicles or personal belongings left at a training ground, except where it is caused by our negligence.
10.5 Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Photos and filming
11.1 To protect our training methods and the privacy of other clients, please do not film or record sessions, and do not share recordings or videos from our courses or online training with anyone else.
11.2 We sometimes take photos or short videos during training for our website and social media. If you would prefer that you or your dog are not featured, just tell your trainer or email us.
12. Online training
12.1 Online training must be paid for in full before it begins.
12.2 Course materials and videos are for your personal use only and must not be copied, forwarded or shared.
13. Your information
13.1 We use the details you give us to manage your bookings, keep you and your dog safe at training, and stay in touch about your training.
13.2 We keep your information securely, share it only with our trainers and the services we use to run our bookings, and never sell it.
13.3 You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing info@riverlilyworkingdogs.co.uk. Our full privacy notice explains how we use your information and your rights.
14. General
14.1 We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on our website when you book applies to that booking.
14.2 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
15. And finally
Please bring your sense of humour and enjoy training your dog with Riverlily Working Dogs.
